Google has launched a tool that lets you make phone calls to any number from within your Gmail Inbox.
Gmail already has a video and voice chat function that lets Gmail users speak to each other online. The new call function means members can now call any phone even if the other person isn’t online.
Gmail gives you $0.10 of free credit to start with. You can top this up with your credit or debit card.
Calls to numbers in the US and Canada will remain free until at least the and of the year. Google has confirmed that calls within the UK and to France and Germany cost $0,02 a minute.
Once you have installed the Gmail call plug-in, you can just click ‘Call phone’ at the top of the chat list and dial a number or enter a contact’s name. You will need a microphone and speakers or headphones to take advantage of the function
